LaVon Hardison sings jazz standards, originals, and her own eclectic and compelling arrangements of popular songs. Equally at home at jazz clubs, corporate events, private parties, and sacred settings, LaVon uses her background in musical theater, opera, and jazz as a foundation for her accessible, joyful, and engaging musical explorations.
LaVon’s earliest musical roots go back to her childhood Baptist church in Boston. She went on to formal training in classical/opera and has performed extensively with the Boston Lyric Opera and many other dramatic and musical theaters across the country. In addition, she has taken on a variety video, radio, TV, film, and voice-over work. Now based in Olympia, Washington, LaVon works with various musical collaborators with whom she can have deep–and often funny–musical conversations. She also collaborates with swing guitarist Vince Brown as the duo Red and Ruby.
LaVon was a featured performer at the 2009 Festival of World Sacred Music in New Delhi, India. In 2016, LaVon won the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Jazz Vocalist Audition at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, claiming the prize of a jazz-soaked journey to Japan, performing in Kobe, Osaka, and Tokyo. In 2017 she was named the Earshot Jazz Vocalist of the Year. LaVon has also hosted a weekly radio show, “The Jazz Experience” on KAOS-FM.
