Yes, I have been doing the show at ArsWest, but I have had moments of distraction. Some of them self induced and some of them were “assisted”.
Online scrabble. My phone has always been, just that: a phone. an instrument of communication. Before shopping for a new phone, I was quite sure I did not need all of the bells and whistles that 20 something sales guys try to hawk. Boy, I was wrong. Not only do I have a phone, but I have a new versatile best friend that is shaped like a piece of toast, and plays Scrabble with me anytime I want. Money can buy love.
Audience members. We had a few performances of Distracted that were spiced with “talkers”. These are folks who think that the live theater that they are watching is actually happening in the comfort of their own living room in front of the TV; and the actors are unable to hear the conversations and commentary. Newsflash. We can hear you and please leave the sandwich in your bag, this is not your living room. OK, at least it wasn’t a TV dinner.
Nature. The camilla bush has been optimistic for weeks now, sending out new blooms. The crocuses have raised their heads out of the earth, shouting” hallelujah” (you have to get very close to hear them) and the wee daffodill hang their head looking for their underground toes. . The pine cone that I found on a recent walk is mum about his family history and sits on the kitchen counter waiting for identification. And that moon, we had the other night….oh bella luna! When the world thaws, it reveals more stuff to see and carry home in your pockets.
Distracted will be at ArtsWest til April 2, hope you can make it!
